DUBLIN STREET LANE

We had converted an office back to a townhouse in Albany Street for one of Edinburgh’s more colourful property developers to use as his own home.

Behind the house was  steep garden leading to a very ugly cantilevered carpark accessed from the lane behind. We took away the carpark deck and excavated further underneath to create a three storey building. The lower ground floor faced the back of the townhouse and housed an office plus guest accommodation; above that at street level were two garages and an entrance to a flat at first floor level. A favourite feature of the flat is the balustrade that is attached to the sliding door at first floor level that slides across the opening when the window is open but doesn’t interfere with the view when it is closed.
