BRUNSWICK STREET TOWNHOUSES
Edinburgh
Our Clients bought two adjacent, category A listed townhouses on Brunswick Street.
This street is part of Playfair’s Eastern New Town (or Calton) scheme, and as such is an important example of the work of one of Scotland’s leading early 19th century Architects. These four storey townhouses are beautifully proportioned and better suited to modern living than their five storey counterparts on the likes of Heriot Row. One was a private residence, the other a working men’s club and trade union organisation HQ.
The first was a relatively straightforward refurbishment but the other, thanks to inappropriate alterations required for its commercial use allowed the creation of some unusual features, in particular the French windows at the rear on every storey and the linked public rooms so desired but so rarely found in Edinburgh.
