MARRIOT HOTEL
Bristol
This was a genuine case of making a silk purse from a sow’s ear!
The Bristol Marriot (previously Holiday Inn) was a typical 1960’s, concrete carbuncle with a cinema attached at one end. The brief was to upgrade the public areas, reception, bar, restaurants and create a conference centre within the cinema.
Ambitious structural works were required to open up the entrance foyer, acres of marble and timber panelling were applied to bring the dreary 1960’s interiors up to date. In the cinema we dug down three storeys in places and underpinned the original structure to create conference rooms and a rooftop conservatory.
